I see color and beauty everywhere.
I started painting in 2025, when I moved to Barcelona, Spain, from the San Francisco Bay Area. After closing my cosmetics company, I was looking for some form of creative therapy, and I found it in color. Every painting is signed AF|Kolo: my initials and my maiden name.

PROVENANCE
An ongoing series on lineage, naming and belonging. I was born to two Nigerian parents and raised by one of them. My mother is half Yoruba, from Osogbo, and half Edo, from Benin City. My father is Nupe, from Niger State. My name, Aishetu, comes from Nupe culture, a culture I grew up knowing nothing about. For years I carried a name that pointed to a heritage I had never been given. It was my mother's people who raised me and loved me, my whole life. These paintings honor them.

The Oba's head: seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, then drawn in pencil, carved in clay and finished in gold glaze.
